The Tourism Development Company (TDC) host public awareness programmes specifically designed to increase awareness of the importance of the tourism industry among key groups in Trinidad and Tobago. A major element of the TDC’s Public Awareness programme is the Youth Awareness Campaign which includes visits to various schools throughout nationally.
The aim of the project was to inform, educate and promote discussion on the tourism industry, the many career options available and major developments in the sector. The programme is also intended to assist in creating national pride and awareness of Trinidad and Tobago’s sites and attractions among our youth.
To enhance the learning and discovery experience TDC commissioned an augmented reality campaign that would allow students to more actively engage with tourist related information using their mobile phone/device. Using the Trinipedia app students were able to scan key Point of Interest POI on a specially designed interactive map. Each POI was brought to life depicting a 3D model and scene that would allow students to further engage with the information. This was the first time augmented reality was integrated into an nationwide educational activity.
